Statewide Reports: Dec. 28, 2017
This could be a good weekend for crappie fishing with some warm, stable weekend weather. Try Alamo, Roosevelt or even Bartlett lakes.
Fishing at Lake Pleasant can be good if you can find some active stripers, white bass or largemouth bass. Hit the northern coves such as Castle Creek, Coles or Humbug or Agua Fria and remember the closure for nesting bald eagles is in effect in the Agua Fria arm. The ticket has been fishing live shad deep if you can get them.
Weather in the high country has been unseasonably warm: In Pinetop, highs are forecast to hit the low-60s this weekend. So some pine-scented lakes have thin, unsafe ice, while others are ice covered or partially covered.
In the White Mountains region, try Patterson Ponds, Show Low Creek (meadows, our new Community water), and Silver Creek.
Best action will be in lower elevations. Our top-5 winter fishing spots have been producing memories for anglers. See our Catch of the Week: a monster striped bass was caught from shore in the Colorado River in Bullhead City.
Not a whole lot of time until the bass bite hits a winter lull. The water temperature at Roosevelt lake is in the mid-50s, and as water temperature near closer to 50 degrees (and below), the metabolism of bass will slow and anglers will have to fish particularly deep and use extra slow presentations (with dropshots, Texas rigs, etc).

Colorado River (Bullhead City)
George T. caught this 42-inch, 31-pound, 15-ounce striped bass on a swimbait Tuesday night from shore on the Colorado River in Bullhead City. He said the fight lasted about 14 minutes. The fish got off the hook near the shore and George went in the water to grab the fish before it swam away. See George’s video.
The fish was weighed and measured at Rusty’s Riviera Marina.
