Statewide Reports: April 12, 2018
Spring bass fishing conditions are in full effect, trout are being stocked in mass amounts, and one of the best months of the year to “Fish AZ” is here.
Let’s get right to some bass fishing hot spots:
- Lake Pleasant is a hot spot for striped bass: the great bite will last about 2 more weeks. See a video fishing report from on the water at Pleasant on Saturday.
- Bartlett and Saguaro lakes are good bets for largemouth bass. See this report from Wednesday with Mesa Bass Pro Gary Senft:
As always, don’t forget some to hit of our state’s other top largemouth bass spots: Alamo Lake, Roosevelt Lake, Lake Havasu, Lake Powell, Lake Mohave, Lake Mead, Colorado River-Yuma Division, Colorado River-Imperial Division, Pena Blanca Lake and Parker Canyon Lake.
Crappie should still be spawning, so head to hot spots such as Alamo Lake, Bartlett Lake and Roosevelt Lake.
See our stocking schedule below for some good bets for trout fishing. One hot spot is Ashurst Lake near Williams: get there before May for some holdover trout.
North Central region update
According to the city of Williams, the gate to City Reservoir is now open. Also, according to the Coconino National Forest Service website, CC Cragin (Blueridge) is closed because of low water levels.
Community waters stocked with bluegill
The “Core” Community waters are being stocked this week with bluegill sunfish. These fish are great for kids (and adults) to catch. See the stocking schedule for a list of “core” waters. Channel catfish stocking continue.
