Arizona fishing report: The Reel Deal
We are again stocking Mogollon Rim creeks with trout! On July 13, we stocked rainbow trout into the East Verde River and July 11, Tonto Creek, Christopher Creek, Haigler Creek. These are scheduled to be stocked again this week.
Fire restrictions lifted (but remain vigilant)
As always, be sure to check https://firerestrictions.us/az/ for the latest fire restrictions before heading out.
Family fishing tactics
This also is a good time to head to the high country and catch sunfish and crayfish. In the White Mountains region, Show Low Creek and Show Low Lake, as well as Fool Hollow Lake, are great places for families to enjoy some great amenities and put kids on consistent action. See some ways to do it.
The meadows portion of Show Low Creek also is a great family fishing area for channel catfish that were stocked there about a month ago. Excellent for kids — there is even a disc golf course.
Catch of the Week
Send your fishing reports and photos to BFishing@AZGFD.gov —
one will be selected as Catch of the Week.
Alex G. and his father-in-law on July 14 estimated this rainbow trout to be around 20 inches. They reported getting to the lake at around 6 a.m., and for the next 3 hours, enjoying a pretty consistent bite. “We saw trout rising in the shallows near the boat ramps, and focused there,” Alex wrote. “I threw flies and my father-in-law threw rooster tails. All in all, we caught about 20 trout together, with the monster attached being the biggest. … He was released pretty soon after catching him. Not a bad morning!”
Thank you, anglers!
Arizona fishing opportunities wouldn’t be possible without the Sport Fish Restoration Program. It was created through the Dingell-Johnson Act of 1950 (Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act) and the Wallop-Breaux amendments of 1984.
Through a federal excise tax paid by manufacturers on fishing gear and motorboat fuels, it provides grant funds for fishery conservation, boating access, and aquatic education.
