Fishing Report: North Central region
High winds over the past week made angling difficult. No recent reports are available. Kaibab Lake, Ashurst Lake, City Reservoir and Santa Fe Reservoir were all stocked with Rainbow Trout last week.
KAIBAB LAKE — The lake was stocked last week with trout. Fishing was slow over the weekend, but the wind didn’t help. Folks were catching a few fish near the fishing dock on garlic PowerBait.
CATARACT LAKE — Still haven’t heard from anyone fishing Cataract this spring. Cataract should have quite a few holdover trout from last year’s stockings along with one stocking from this year. This may be a sleeper spot this spring.
CITY RESERVOIR — Prior to last week’s storm folks were doing well using corn or small spoons. It was also good after the storm on Sunday. Stocked last week.
DOGTOWN LAKE — Fishing was good prior to the storm for folks using garlic PowerBait or spinners.
SANTA FE — No recent report. Stocked last week.
WHITEHORSE LAKE — Gate is closed. Whitehorse was stocked with largemouth bass last month. The fish stocked were 5-8 inches long. The minimum size you can keep bass in Whitehorse is 13 inches. Please release all of the bass caught this year so we can get them established. More bass will equal bigger crappie in the long run.
LOWER LAKE MARY- I am still getting reports of fly and lure anglers catching holdover fish from last year. The ones being caught are really nice sized fish.
UPPER LAKE MARY — No report.
ASHURST LAKE — Fishing was good last week before the storm on garlic PowerBait. Over the weekend fishing was hit or miss with folks using garlic PowerBait to the left of the boat ramp doing the best. The lake was stocked last Monday.
FRANCIS SHORT POND – The pond is being stocked weekly with Rainbow Trout. Folks using flies and lures are catching lots of fish. Bait anglers are catching fish on worms and garlic PowerBait. I am hearing reports of some bigger trout being caught. The lake was stocked last Monday
KINNIKINICK LAKE —No reports.
OAK CREEK — No report. Stocked last week.
BEAVER CREEK – Has been stocked.
WEST CLEAR CREEK – Has been stocked.
BLUE RIDGE — The lake is very low and we are not planning on stocking it this year. The road to the lake is open, but the boat ramp is closed for trailered boats. Folks can still drive down to drop off canoes and other car topper boats.
