Fishing report: North Central region
Ashurst Lake was stocked last week and another load is heading there this week. Both Frances Short and Ashurst were stocked with some bigger fish, 12-inch plus, from a pond at Bubbling Ponds Hatchery (1.53 fish/lb).
Saturday morning, when I was doing creel census at Ashurst, folks were catching a mixture of fresh stockers and holdover rainbow trout on almost any color of PowerBait on the east side of the lake fishing on the bottom. Chartreuse garlic and yellow corn were the most common colors being used, but I also talked to some folks catching them on white and fluorescent red. In addition, I talked to some folks catching them on worms under a bobber. The pike fishermen I talked to weren’t catching any pike.
I also did creel on Kaibab Lake Saturday afternoon. The wind had come up and the few folks fishing left after 10-15 minutes of starting. No fish were caught in the short time they were there.
