My grandson Caellum Johnston (pictured) and I fished Lake Mohave June 3 and June 4. We caught 18 small mouth and large mouth bass mostly using single tail grubs and Senkos near Katherine’s Landing in 3-20 ft of water. Water temps were between 69-75 degrees. This smallmouth bass pictured weighed 4.2 pounds, caught on a black-with-blue speckled Senko. We also caught three stripers night fishing under a green lights and caught three stripers by Davis Dam. Stripers were 6.7 lbs, 7.2 lbs and 12.9 lbs.
Colorado River waters
The fishing here along the Colorado River especially below the Davis Dam is proving to be producing some great catches. We have some super striper activity, and let;s add a few rainbow trout to that mix. Our local anglers and a few visiting ones are having a blast. Our two local anglers Tom Gallant and side kick Jerry Tomlinson were fishing up above the casino area from Toms boat using anchovies to land a string of stripers. This is a great size and most common up and down the river. However, not a rule as Greg Magruder caught a 9.24-pound striper at 30 and 5/8 inches. He was fishing from shore using anchovies on the Nevada side above the Avi bridge. Lets add a nice catch of rainbow trout in the mix. Thomas Giambalvo from Ft. Mohave was using PowerBait while fishing from shore on the Nevada side near the casino’s. I have been getting some reports that Community park was producing a few rainbow trout also. This area is a great spot for all sorts of recreation but a super spot for fishing. Up on Lake Mohave the striper bite is been a bit hit or mostly miss. Not sure where they went but I do know the striper bite will be picking up on the lake soon. For now the largemouth bass and the smallmouth bass are active and anglers are having some success using plastics. The smallmouth bass are running in the 3-plus pound range. The ned rigs were working well with the peanut butter jelly color doing great. The Topock Marsh has been a bit quiet, and again that will pick up as the bass are out of spawn mode and should be hunting for food. Hope this helps some for now and we sill see you in soon to share that catch and stories.
