Stripers are hitting cast and trolled top-water lures like pencil poppers and Super Spooks — shad and chrome colors — in the a.m. hours from 5:30-7 a.m.
Fishing cut bait (anchovies/sardines) has been very productive at the entrance to the river north to Mohave Rock. Largemouth bass are hitting buzz baits, poppers, and frogs during the first 2 hours in the a.m.
and then again during the last 2 hours of light in the evening. Midday bite good around shady pockets in cattails and tulles using slow-fall plastics like Senkos, Gitzits, and brush hogs. Green pumpkin, watermelon red, and cinnamon purple have been productive colors.
Redear panfish are hitting good on crappie tubes and nightcrawlers on shallow reefs and flats where they spawn. Nighttime catfish bite excellent on cut mackerel and 3- to 6-inch live bluegillls — 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. has been the best time to target “BIG” cats.
