Fishing Report: Colorado River waters – Richard lands 36-inch striper from shore

Richard Erdmann and his fishing buddy Jake were at Community Park while Richard was throwing his favorite swim bait from shore. His striped bass weighed in at 14. 18 pounds and was 36 inches.
Look where we live. The weather is great and the fishing is super. We are getting rainbow trout being stocked by our Game and Fish Dept. The fishing here along the banks of the Colorado River below the Davis Dam is going very well. We have trout and stripers with Community Park producing both at various locations.

Both Davis Camp and Community were recently stocked with trout. However, Rotary Park did receive some, and our local anglers Del Pragnell and David Nader (above) landed their limit of 5 each. This was a nice catch and David’s largest rainbow was 1.86 pounds at 18 1/2 inches. They were fishing from shore and using PowerBait.
Topock Marsh
Not much word from the Topock Marsh. Not sure why, but there should be some panfish action along with some channel cat fish being around.
Lake Mohave
Up on Lake Mohave, the striper action is picking up. The coves near the power lines are your go-to spots — and watch for the shad boils. Near the dam the fish seem to be a bit deeper and anchovies are bringing them in to the boat. The shoreline near the dam has some great spots to try your luck. I did hear of a few anglers trolling on the Nevada side up above the power lines.
Due to some recent events of dead stripers in the river, I am volunteering to try and collect and get a couple of the fish in question to a lab to get tested. I don’t want some old dead fish but if it’s fairly fresh I will try. The problem is getting the fish in time to the lab so the tissue is still in good shape for testing. The other part if there is more than one fish, only bring in a couple of the better-looking ones that could be tested. More that likely if there is only one, it’s no big deal, but a few bring me a couple.
Our City manager has requested this to make sure our fish are safe and strong. We all try to make sure our river is kept up and we will do all we can to protect it so if you see any activity you are not sure should be going on let us or me know. I hope I am able to respond to any questions anyone may have or I will try and get an answer.
Hope this helps for now and we will see you in soon.
