Fishing Report: Colorado River waters

The striper bite is doing well along the Colorado River here below the Davis Dam. The Casino area along with Community Park are a couple of your go-to spots. Both sides are producing some great catches in the 1 to 3 pound range.
In the upper Big Bend area, Jim Ferren (above) was fishing from his boat and landed a couple of stripers using anchovies — the larger one was 8.96 pounds and 30 and 7/8 inches while the other at 3.98 pounds and 23 and 1/2 inches. This shows you need a good knot and line as this size of fish can peel off some line as these fish are great fighters.
The Rotary Park area has been somewhat quiet for fishing news, but now that the holiday has passed, we should see some of our anglers back out there. Both spots — Rotary Park and Community Park — had no room for fishing this last weekend.
Our local angler Dennis Baldwin and fishing buddy Jasper (above) were fishing in the Topock Marsh where Dennis was able to land three channel cats. He was fishing from his boat using chicken livers.
Also fishing the marsh, Dayton Grant (above) landed a catfish weighing in at 3.66 pounds and 21 inches. Dayton was fishing for largemouth bass using a white spinnerbait and was surprised with a nice channel cat.
An update on the rainbow trout plants: we have two stockings and we will be getting our next stocking in October from the Willow Beach Hatchery.
I will try and get more information as we get closer. The hatchery just got a new manager and this promises to be a great fishing season.
Hope this helps for now — thanks for all of your support and we will see you in soon.
