Fishing Report: Colorado River waters
Well I am not sure what’s up with the stripers here along the Colorado River. The bite is on the slow side, or it’s the cold and wind that is keeping our anglers indoors.
Our local angler Steve Pugh was able to take his kayak out up on Lake Mohave and land a 6.94-pound striper at 26 inches. He was using a soft bait in a white pattern. He had some luck catching a couple of other stripers in this size range and was practicing catch and release, but this fish had taken the hook too far in to release.
This is about the only news from the lake mostly due to the wind advisories. Steve was watching the weather and went out near the dam when the conditions were favorable. The shoreline near the dam and along telephone cove are some good locations for some striper action.
The shoreline along Community Park is still a good place for trout along with the Nevada side. The down-side of our trout bite is our stocking is shutdown along with the rest of the federal government. In other words, at this time the funding is temporarily on hold. I hope to hear of some stripers soon as we tend to get some of our larger fish around this time of year. I know it’s a little brutal out there so just watch for a break in the weather and our water levels. The water levels are starting to come up not a lot as of yet but we are getting a little higher release.
I will try and get an update on our next stocking. Thanks for all of your support and we hope to see you in with that catch soon.
