Fishing Report: Colorado River-northwest
By Rusty at Riviera Marina
The Colorado River is producing some great catches and the fishing is super. Whether you are targeting the rainbow trout or the striped bass, you have a good chance to land some fish. Not sure what to use or where to go? Stop in: If we don’t have what you want we will get it for you. The stripers have been running in the 1- to 3-pound range, but that is starting to change.
Our local anglers Randy and Susan Brown caught a 9.96-pound striper at 30 inches. This nearly 10-pound fish was landed by Susan and brought to shore by Randy in a nice surprise:
She was fishing from their dock in the upper big bend area for trout. This striper seemed to like the lure she was using and after about 20 minutes due to the light line it was on. Close friends of the same family were visiting from Utah.
Misty Maave (blue top) and Pua Matagi are showing two nice-size trout and a average-size striper they were fishing in the upper big bend area and using a small trout lure.
In the same area we have Rio, at 5 years old, sister Emily at 8 and Kaily 11. They have been learning catch and release but this one rainbow was hooked deep and has made it to the table. This trout weighed in at 1.6 pounds and 15 and 1/2 inches and was landed on PowerBait.
I have been getting some great news from Community Park as the new shoreline is working well. Both anglers and shore-goers are enjoying the area. Whether you are catching fish or our suns rays, it’s a great place.
Rotary Park is still producing some nice catches local angler Dell Pragnell landed his limit using PowerBait from shore. The Topock Marsh is your go-to spot for the largemouth bass action with spinnerbaits in a white or green producing the best. I haven’t heard much about the catfish bite, but I am sure it is about to happen.
Up on Lake Mohave I am just getting word that not much is happening as of yet. I am assuming the smallies should be starting soon with some largemouth bass action in the shallows of the upper coves.
Sure hope this helps for now, and we hope to see you in soon. Thanks for all of your support.
