Fishing Report: Colorado River-northwest
Rainbow trout, striped bass — now the catfish bite is picking up. Our local angler derrick Hermosillo landed a nice 11.6 pound channel cat at 27 and 1/2 inches. He was fishing from shore below Community Park.
I have been hearing that up on Lake Mohave the catfish bite is picking up and also down river in the Topock Marsh area the cat fish bite is doing well. The trout bite is doing super: PowerBait and nightcrawlers along with salmon eggs are working for you bait anglers.
In the Rotary Park area, we have our local angler 8 year old Lemari Cooke catching a trout she landed using worms from shore. while our visiting anglers, 10-year-old Averie and her younger brother, 7-year-old Oliver, were visiting from Las Vegas. The Williams were fishing from shore using PowerBait. The rainbows were just under 1 pound. They were fishing in the Rotary Park area.
This week we have members of our local fishing club with their guide Gary Regan. They were fishing near the Davis Dam using anchovies to land some stripers and a trout. Yes, our trout do go after the anchovies, which is not a normal bait of choice for this type of fish. I have been hearing that the striper bite is going well from the Davis Dam to well below the needles area. I have also heard of a few larger stripers coming in nothing real large as of yet but in the 8 to 12 pound range. Mostly 1 to 3 pounds is what most anglers are having success catching.
Up on Lake Mohave it’s smallmouth bass and some largemouth bass with plastics working the best some catfish action. No word of stripers as of yet so if you have some luck on the lake please let us know.
Hope this helps for now and we are looking forward to seeing you for the Fishing Derby we are hosting for the city. This is going to be a great success for our anglers as the city has secured some cash prizes and will also have a raffle after last weigh in. The raffle is open to all to participate in.
