Fishing Report: Alamo Lake
Lake level: 1,122 with releases of 25 cfs
Water temperature: mid-60s
Mark Knapp from Alamo Lake State Park said crappie fishing is fair and starting to pick up. Seasoned anglers are averaging 8-10 crappie daily flipping minnows into bushes or by the buoy line. Crappie are scattered. Both ramps are open. If you’re camping, be sure to make an early reservation.
Knapp said the winning bag for the recent Arizona State Troopers Bass Classic was 40 pounds. He said anglers were catching largemouth up to 10 pounds and most are in prespawn.
Catfishing is decent and cats are in shallow vegetation. Try flipping minnows or worms. Knapp said one angler Tuesday morning caught a 7-pounder on a fly rod. “He said, ‘That was the best 30 minutes of my life,'” Knapp said.
That said, shore fishing is spotty and most shore anglers are catching 1-2 bass a day. Knapp has no heard any reports about bluegill.
He still believes action will be incredible from now through the early summer.
