Angler Reports: Frances Short Pond, Lower Lake Mary
Frances Short Pond
I fished Frances Short Pond on Saturday from 8:30 – noon and caught 22 of the recently stocked trout and two black crappie on the fly rod. The fishing was best in the morning and had slowed by noon. Patterns that worked best were #12 beaded prince nymph, # 14 griffiths gnat, and #12 beaded-brown woolly bugger. The rainbows ranged from 15 -18 and put up a good fight. I noticed quite a few people harvesting fish — remember the limit is only 4 trout on Frances Short.
Small lures and worms were also successful techniques for catching the large rainbows. For the lures a slow retrieve seemed to work best. It is a great time to fish the pond with the leaves now changing colors. Attached are a few photos. Enjoy!
Lower Lake Mary
Oh and I fished Lower Lake Mary on Sept. 23 and caught 26 rainbows and seven crappie on the fly rod in 2 hours from 8 -10 a.m. Rainbow ranged from 11-16 inches caught on #12 beaded prince and zebra midge. Although the lake is low there are still fish to be had.
