Angler Report: North Central region
WILLIAMS LAKES:
KAIBAB LAKE — Last Saturday folks were catching trout on garlic PowerBait fished on the bottom. Folks were also catching fish using worms under a bobber. According to the camp ground hosts we talked to a couple of big channel catfish were caught in the last couple of weeks along with a 14 inch crappie.
CATARACT LAKE — No anglers were fishing the lake when I was there on Saturday. It has been stocked.
CITY RESERVOIR — Lake is closed because of the fire danger.
DOGTOWN LAKE — Fishing has been hit or miss on Dogtown so far this year.
SANTA FE — Lake is closed because of the fire danger.
WHITEHORSE LAKE — Gate is open. Whitehorse was stocked with largemouth bass in March. The fish stocked were 5-8 inches long. The minimum size you can keep bass in Whitehorse is 13 inches. Please release all of the bass caught this year so we can get them established. More bass will equal bigger crappie in the long run.
FLAGSTAFF LAKES:
LOWER LAKE MARY- No report.
UPPER LAKE MARY — No report.
ASHURST LAKE — Even with the high winds the fishing was good to excellent on Saturday with folks using garlic PowerBait doing the best. We also talked to an angler using cheese flavored PowerBait that was doing well. One angler was catching trout on a small silver Rapala. The trout I saw ranged from about 10 inches to some pushing 16 inches.
FRANCIS SHORT POND – The pond got a double stocking of rainbow trout last week with one load being large trout out of Colorado. Folks using flies and lures were catching lots of fish. Bait anglers are catching fish on worms and garlic PowerBait. Catfish will be stocked soon.
KINNIKINICK LAKE — No reports.
OAK CREEK — No report. Stocked last week.
BEAVER CREEK – Has been stocked.
WEST CLEAR CREEK-. Has been stocked.
BLUE RIDGE — The lake is very low and we are not planning on stocking it this year. The road to the lake is open, but the boat ramp is closed for trailered boats. Folks can still drive down to drop off canoes and other car topper boats.
KNOLL LAKE — Was stocked Tuesday. Last week’s stocking was postponed because of the Tinder Fire. Access from the Blueridge side is difficult right now due to fire closures.
LAKE POWELL — “Striped bass are Spawning”
