Flagstaff and Williams Fishing Report for 9/14/16
The water is beginning to cool off and trout fishing should be starting to take off in our Lakes. Frances Short pond has been stocked 2 times in the last week with Rainbow trout. We are hearing good reports from Dogtown and Kinnikinick with folks catching bot Rainbow and Brown Trout on lures and flies.
Williams Area Lakes
DOGTOWN LAKE — The lake was stocked with Rainbow Trout 8/29. With the water temperatures starting to cool the trout fishing should be picking up. I did get a report last week from an angler who caught trout using a kastmaster and a super duper from a boat. He also had some luck on nightcrawlers. If you like fishing with powerbait, garlic has been the ticket all year on Dogtown. Try the North shore line with worms under a bobber for Crappie and Bluegill.
SANTA FE — Folks are still catching Yellow Perch and Crappie on worms and mealworms fished 1-3 feet under a bobber on the shallow end. Trout were also being caught on Garlic power bait. Stocked with trout last week.
FRANCIS SHORT POND – The fall Rainbow Trout stocking season has begun on Frances Short Pond. Trout were stocked last Thursday and this Monday. I would use lures or flies to catch the fresh stockers.
KINNIKINICK LAKE —As of 8/23/16 we have stocked about 35,000 Rainbow Trout in Kinnikinick in the last 3 weeks. These freshly stocked fish will be easier to catch on spinners, small spoons and flies than on powerbait as they adapt to being in the lake. Stocked with Brown trout 9/1/16 and 9/6/16. One of my coworkers fished the lake Sunday and caught trout on a kastmaster and a bead head prince nymph fly. He caught 2 Brown Trout, one about 13 inches, and a Rainbow Trout in the hour he fished along with losing 2 other fish and having something big break him off. He said there was a lot of surface activity with fish chasing the Fathead Minnows near the shore so silver lures should work well.
