Flagstaff Williams Fishing Report 10/5/16
DOGTOWN LAKE — Folks are catching Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout on lures and flies along the north shore of the lake. I haven’t had any reports of folks catching the trout on bait recently, but folks usually catch some nice Rainbows on powerbait this time of year.
SANTA FE — Fishing is still good on worms.
FRANCIS SHORT POND – The fall Rainbow Trout stocking season has begun on Frances Short Pond. Worms were working this past weekend along with powerbait. Folks using flies and lures have also been catching trout. The lake will be stocked this week.
KINNIKINICK LAKE —Fishing Saturday at our fishing event on Kinnikinick Lake was excellent. Anglers using small black spinners, roostertails, and Joes Flies in the royal coachman pattern were catching both Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout. Some of the Brown Trout and Rainbow trout were over 14 inches with one Rainbow being around 16 inches. The standard setup was to place a casting bubble about 3 feet above the lure, cast the lure out, then bring it in slow. We had about 75 folks attend the event and almost everyone using the lures caught fish. Fly anglers were also catching fish. As of 9/27/16 we have stocked about 49,000 Rainbow Trout and 10,000 Brown Trout in Kinnikinick. We also stocked 9,900 5 inch Brown Trout in the lake this week to grow up for next year. Please release these smaller fish.
