Fishing Report: Colorado River
The Topock Marsh is active, and not just with largemouth bass, but as our local angler Dennis Baldwin and fishing buddy Jasper show, chicken livers and anchovies produce well with one of the channel cats weighing in at 3.48 pounds. Dennis was fishing from his boat to land these fish:
Here along the Colorado River below the Davis Dam, it’s mostly striper action. Anchovies is your go-to bait, so shows our local angler Mike Merritt (below). Mike fishes mostly from his boat but has been know to use his jet ski now and again. Yep, skies make excellent fishing boats, providing great casting and being able to getting to that perfect spot. These fish were taken in the Big Bend area. There is some trout action, but this time of year it slows mostly due to our warm weather:
I have been hearing that the Casino area is also producing some great striper action: the evening is your best bet here below the dam. Up on Lake Mohave there is some catfish to be found. The coves near the dam are starting to give us a few.
Our local angler Dale Sellers landed a 3.26-pound channel cat (below) at 23 and 5/8 inches fishing from shore and using anchovies. The striper bite hasn’t taken off at the lake as of yet but a few are being landed in the late evening. The coves are producing some largemouth bass while the shelves are a great spot to try for the smallmouth with plastics working well.
Hope this helps and and we will see you in soon to share that catch and tell the story. Thanks for all of your support, Now Go Catch A Fish
