Surprise Lake Grayson S.: This bass was caught out of Surprise Lake and was 3.4 pounds. I’ve seen this bass for years and have been trying to catch him for all those years. He had a big scar on top of his head and his eyes were really big.
All of those years, I threw everything to try to get him in the same exact spot and I’ve never been able to get him to even look at my lures or live bait. I’ve never seen him eat before either. But this day, I saw him finally eat bluegills out of a small horizontal tunnel underground and so I threw out a live green sunfish with a good size hook on his head and that sunfish swam right under there. Seconds later, my line went out, I set the hook and he was gone. He took my bait fish and I went through 3 live baits and hooked that fish 4 times.
The last time, my line went out really fast and I let him eat it for about 30 seconds and set the hook, got him. This was a very rewarding fish for me even though it was not my personal best, but he was still a very rewarding and memorable fish. He was almost like my pet — I saw him often swimming in and out of his hole and was just big and mean looking.
When I fought him, he was so mad and he was splashing and no- stop turning away and fighting really hard. Thank you so much for reading my story and tight lines!
