Mogollon Rim (Black Canyon, Willow Springs, Woods Canyon)
Just got back from a fishing trip on the Rim. Fished Black Canyon on the 30th without much luck. Most anglers were left without a nibble at all. One set of anglers caught their limit but were very early on the lake and out by 10am. Woods Canyon couldn’t be stocked at all due to the boat ramp still being under construction. We fished Willow Springs on the 1st 2nd and 3rd. All fishing was done from the shore. All days had significant bites. The 1st and the 3rd released several trout in the 6 to 8 in. range and had 2 to three 15 to 18 in. keepers. The 2nd was an amazing fishing day. Catching and releasing around 10 – 8-inch fish or so and landing 6 large keepers. Everything was pretty quiet till 9am ish and we had consistent bites till around 3pm. Fish were biting on worms and PowerBait between 18 and 24 inches off the bottom. PowerBait that worked the best were rainbow and lemon twist another angler was having luck with chartreuse. They also seemed to prefer the glittering PowerBait. The fish are in the range of 25 to 30 feet off the shore so definitely put on a good size weight to help get your line out. They also responded well to covering the worms in bass and /or trout spray before casting. Good luck out there!
