Alamo Lake
GML: I have fished Alamo off and on for 30 years. It has been two years since I was there until last week. We spent two days on the lake Oct. 26-27. Two of us fishing morning and afternoon. Found plenty of biting bass in 8 to 15 feet of depth on the outside points and slightly into the coves.
The area between the launch ramps was very consistent. We landed 60 bass over the two days and lost another dozen or so. All the fish were on the smaller size ranging from 10 to 14 inches. Biting a variety of plastics with black and dark brown working the best for us. Small 3-inch curl tail grubs fished on a light jigheads was working well. About 20 of the fish caught on deep running crankbaits. Shad pattern and bass pattern seemed to be working well.
The water level is as low as I have seen it, but still lots of fishing areas with so few boats on the lake. Water temp was 68-70, little to no wind both days. Metered lots of shad in 15 to 35 feet of water … did not have any luck vertical fishing the balls of bait but didn’t spend too much time trying.
Launched on the dirt ramp (closest to the dam) no problem at all. We had a fun couple days of fishing one of our favorite lakes.
