Fishing opportunities expanding in Prescott Valley
We’ve teamed up with the town of Prescott Valley to expand fishing opportunities in that community.
A new site, Yavapai Lakes, consisting of two ponds in the Urban Forest Park, has been added to AZGFD’s Community Fishing Program. The ponds are located at 8700 E. Lakeshore Drive in Prescott Valley and were originally established as groundwater recharge sites.
Fain Lake, which AZGFD already had been stocking with rainbow trout from state hatcheries, will begin to receive fish through the Community Fishing Program as well.
On Tuesday, June 12, AZGFD stocked 1,000 pounds of catchable-sized catfish into Yavapai Lakes at Urban Forest, and Fain Lake (located at 2215 N. 5th St.) recently received two stockings totaling 1,000 pounds of catfish
The plan is to stock Fain Lake and the Yavapai Lakes with catfish during the summer months, and trout during the cooler winter months.
“At the end of the day, we’re just thrilled to provide more exciting fishing opportunities to this community,” AZGFD Community Fishing Program manager Scott Gurtin said. “Fain Lake will be getting more fish than in the past, and Yavapai Lakes will be a completely new site for anglers to try.”
